DigitalOcean Introduces Scalable Storage for Managed MongoDB Offering

Customers can now scale database storage independently, enabling cost optimizations

DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: DOCN), the simple scalable cloud, today introduced scalable storage for DigitalOcean’s Managed MongoDB offering, giving users the ability to scale their cloud storage capacity independently of other compute requirements. This new functionality will provide customers with greater flexibility to adapt to growing data demands and fluctuating workloads, without the unnecessary expense of added compute capacity.

DigitalOcean’s Managed MongoDB is a fully managed database-as-a-service certified by MongoDB, built in close collaboration with MongoDB, and operated by DigitalOcean. Prior to this update, customers who needed to add storage capacity to their managed databases were required to upgrade the whole database plan, including processor and memory. By making it possible to scale storage capacity independently, customers benefit from greater flexibility and unlock cost efficiencies as they scale their applications.

“For many of our customers’ workloads, it’s not practical or cost-effective to upgrade an entire database plan in order to keep up with growing data,” said Darpan Dinker, VP of AI/ML and PaaS at DigitalOcean. “Scalable storage for DigitalOcean’s Managed MongoDB gives customers greater flexibility and control to right size their MongoDB storage with a simple click of a button. Upgrades are provisioned automatically with minimal downtime, resulting in simple, adaptable scaling.”

This new offering provides users with:

  • Independent Scaling: Unique ability to scale Managed MongoDB storage separately from compute resources.
  • Cost Efficiency: Granular billing helps ensure customers only pay for the storage they use, reducing unnecessary expenses.
  • Ease of Use: Automated, minimal-downtime provisioning of added storage along with a simple, transparent pricing model enhances the customer experience while optimizing costs.

“As organizations take advantage of increasingly data-intensive workloads like generative AI, it’s of paramount importance that they can scale their data infrastructure seamlessly, maintain exceptional performance, and control costs,” said Annick Bangos, Senior Director of Partner OEM at MongoDB. “With scalable storage for DigitalOcean’s Managed MongoDB, customers can enjoy the high flexibility and performance that MongoDB is known for, and focus on innovating with peace of mind.”
