Stuart Altman Joins PicnicHealth as Chief Product Officer

PicnicHealth, a health technology company dedicated to simplifying clinical research and care, today announced the appointment of Stuart Altman as chief product officer. In this role, Altman will lead product strategy and execution, focusing on scaling PicnicHealth’s platform for non-interventional research and deepening its impact for pharmaceutical partners and patients. He joins PicnicHealth at a key moment of growth as the company expands support for adaptable, patient-centered studies.

“Stuart brings a rare combination of experience that will help PicnicHealth better serve our life sciences partners and patients. He’s successfully built products across the healthcare spectrum—from cell therapy trials and logistics, to EHR systems, to direct-to-consumer lab testing,” said Troy Astorino, co-founder and chief technology officer at PicnicHealth. “Under his product leadership, PicnicHealth will continue to simplify how clinical research is conducted and accelerate advances in patient care.”

Non-interventional research has long been challenged by inefficiencies that lead to delays, patient drop-out, and high costs. PicnicHealth tackles these challenges with an AI-enabled approach that streamlines research from end to end, enabling customers to meet study endpoints more efficiently while reducing the burden on patients. At the core of this approach is the company’s ability to curate medical records from any care site to generate a Unified Patient Record. Today, 12 of the top 20 biopharmaceutical companies partner with PicnicHealth to conduct faster, more cost-efficient research.

Altman brings more than a decade of experience leading the development of innovative healthcare products. He recently served as vice president of product at Simple HealthKit, where he oversaw the at-home diagnostics and patient engagement platform. Previously, as chief product officer at Vineti, he helped develop a cloud-based personalized therapy management platform used at more than 200 clinical sites. Earlier in his career, he was part of the product innovation group at Athenahealth, launching the Epocrates clinical search feature used by half of all U.S. physicians.

“The pressure on life sciences companies to improve research efficiency is immense, and with it, the need to rethink how non-interventional studies are conducted,” said Altman. “PicnicHealth is uniquely positioned to lead that transformation, and I’m excited to help shape the future of clinical research.”
