Abnormal Security hires James Yeager to Lead Sales Strategy

Seasoned executive to drive strategic growth as costly email attacks inundate federal government

Abnormal Security, the leading AI-native cloud email security platform, today announced its continued investment into the federal sector as James Yeager joins the company as Vice President of Public Sector Sales. With over 25 years of experience supporting government customers as they modernize their cybersecurity infrastructure, Yeager will be responsible for driving Abnormal’s overarching strategy across the public sector. The specific near-term focus is on enabling federal agencies to reap the benefits of Abnormal’s comprehensive cloud email security platform.

The enforcement of BOD 18-01 to require DMARC implementation was a signature moment for email security at the federal level, but there continues to be opportunity for improved email protection across the federal government. Recent attacks have targeted this vulnerable sector, most notably when Chinese hackers breached email accounts of federal employees last year, stealing more than 60,000 emails across multiple agencies. Often sent from nation-state actors, these targeted email attacks are experiencing more success as government agencies transition to cloud-based email, making legacy email security solutions ineffective. To combat these highly sophisticated attacks, innovative cloud-based technologies are needed.

Prior to his arrival at Abnormal, Yeager was the VP of Public Sector at CrowdStrike. Inheriting a limited customer footprint, Yeager navigated a complex federal engineering and compliance journey, helping CrowdStrike achieve the designations of FedRAMP High and DoD IL5 authorization. In his seven years in the role, Yeager helped to establish CrowdStrike Falcon as the standard for endpoint security across the public sector. He has also previously served as the Director of Federal Sales at Tanium and as the Regional Director of Federal Civilian Sales at McAfee.

Yeager’s experience in enabling the public sector to implement strong cybersecurity solutions will be instrumental as Abnormal expands into the federal market. The company has already seen massive success in the public sector and currently protects more than 1.5 million mailboxes for state and local government entities. Moving forward, the focus will be on expanding that initial success to federal partners and expanding public sector initiatives to help more government agencies stay protected from the increasing volume of sophisticated email attacks.
