Discover how Corti’s Generative AI, led by Andreas Cleve, transforms real-time healthcare consultations, reducing errors by 40% and documentation time by 80%.
Can you tell us about your journey as CEO and co-founder of Corti?
Corti was founded in 2016 in Copenhagen by Lars Maaløe and me. Lars, with his PhD in machine learning, and my experience as a multi-entrepreneur in AI from Scandinavia to Silicon Valley, has made for a solid partnership. We’ve always been driven by a belief in AI’s transformative potential for healthcare. We started Corti as a research company, with a bold thesis that Generative AI would become an integral part of every patient interaction in real time. At the time, this was a radical idea, but it has since proven to be viable. Initially, we focused on emergency medicine, assisting in detecting cardiac arrests and managing COVID-19 calls. Today, we are building the most reliable and effective Generative AI platform tailored to healthcare’s unique needs, scaling globally to enhance real-time consultations across healthcare and reducing the margin for error by up to 40%.
What inspired you to focus on healthcare technology, and how does your personal connection influence Corti’s mission and innovation?
From day one, we’ve been driven by the desire to reduce disparities in healthcare. Our vision is that everyone, everywhere, should have access to medical expertise. The uncomfortable truth is that millions of healthcare professionals are missing, and this gap is widening. From a young age, I saw firsthand the impact of overburdened healthcare systems on patients, which inspired me to seek a solution. That’s what drives me every day – to think that, thanks to Corti, a patient somewhere might get more time with their doctor, or avoid a misdiagnosis that could have been life-altering.
Could you provide an overview of Corti’s solutions?
Corti offers an AI-powered platform that enhances decision-making across the entire patient journey. Our AI provides a “second opinion” and integrates seamlessly into nearly any system, enabling healthcare professionals to quality assure, journal, code, nudge, prompt, and document every patient interaction. This drastically improves care, documentation, and revenue through expert guidance and support. We know there is no one-size-fits-all in healthcare, so Corti is fully customizable. It fits effortlessly into any workflow, effectively becoming the easiest employee you’ve never hired – no downtime, no breaks. With Corti, healthcare professionals save an average of two hours of documentation time per day and up to 80% on administrative tasks, freeing them to focus more on what truly matters: patient care.
What are the core values that Corti is built upon, and how do they guide the company’s objectives and mission in revolutionizing healthcare?
At Corti, we believe that everyone is a patient at some point, and we strive to support those who care for us when we need it most. Working at Corti means being committed to making the healthcare system better for all. Our team is driven by this belief – that we can and must do more to support caregivers. This mindset fuels us to go above and beyond, embracing challenges, staying curious, learning from failure, and waking up every day ready to try again.
How do recent strategic partnerships with companies like Northland & Companies, Voice Products Inc., and RelyMD align with Corti’s vision for transforming healthcare?
Our partnerships reflect the growing recognition of Corti’s AI not just for its potential to improve the bottom line, but for its ability to enhance care quality and ease the burden on caregivers. Collaborating with respected organizations like Northland, Voice Products Inc., and RelyMD enables us to extend our impact across diverse healthcare settings—from telemedicine and emergency response to routine consultations and coding. For instance, our partnership with Northland will enhance the efficiency and accuracy of over 150,000 healthcare and public safety professionals across the U.S. With each partnership, we’re driving wider adoption, alleviating the strain on healthcare systems, and fostering a brighter future for both providers and patients.
How has your experience in healthcare technology helped you navigate the integration of AI solutions with existing healthcare systems to drive both innovation and operational efficiency?
In healthcare, progress must be practical. We can’t just innovate; we have to integrate. Corti was designed as a foundational element for next-generation healthcare technology, with an adaptable API that integrates seamlessly with virtually any platform, making it the most robust and flexible GenAI solution available today. However, for those who prefer it – usually smaller operations – we also provide off-the-shelf products for them to simply turn on and use. The diversity and complexity of healthcare systems require adaptability, and that’s the key to unlocking the transformative power of our technology. From emergency calls to outpatient visits, Corti enhances every patient interaction, setting new industry standards at the highest quality.
Could you share insights into emerging trends in generative AI technology and Corti’s approach to leveraging these advancements within the healthcare tech landscape?
Generative AI is one of the most exciting advancements today, with its potential to create personalized, adaptive solutions that can revolutionize healthcare. At Corti, we leverage generative AI to develop models that understand complex medical contexts and offer dynamic, real-time support. Our AI is both intelligent and intuitive, evolving alongside healthcare providers to meet their ever-changing needs. As a research-driven company, we are at the forefront of GenAI innovation and are driving our own adoptable trends. For instance, we recently shared research on Explainable AI, as while hallucinations in AI can’t be completely eradicated, it’s important to recognize clearly when they happen. We have developed an approach that ensures they are easily identifiable, raising the bar for safety and reliability in high-stakes applications like healthcare.
With Corti’s recent expansion and revenue growth in the US, what are the primary challenges you foresee, and what lessons have you learned that will guide your strategy moving forward?
Our expansion in the US has been exponential, but we have also been incredibly thoughtful and deliberate with our growth. In a market filled with companies rushing to deliver magical
solutions, it’s important to understand that under the guise of professional language, they could be catastrophically wrong. At Corti we feel that now, when everyone seems satisfied with vague promises, is the time to pause and recalibrate on what is truly important: trust.
We believe that now, more than ever, it’s crucial to pause and prioritize trust over hype. While AI is undoubtedly the path to revolutionizing healthcare, we must ensure that our models are validated, safe, and reliable. As a European company, another key strength lies in navigating complex regulatory landscapes, and this has prepared us well for the U.S., where tougher regulations are emerging. Moving forward, we remain committed to working with our partners to build robust, trusted solutions that stand the test of time.
Drawing from Corti’s rapid growth and success, what significant advice would you offer to budding entrepreneurs and industry professionals aiming to make an impact in healthcare technology?
My advice is to stay laser-focused on the patient and the problem. Healthcare is not just another sector; it’s a realm where lives are literally at stake. Understand the issues deeply, collaborate closely with those on the frontlines, and develop solutions that truly add value. Expect resistance and embrace complexity; healthcare moves cautiously, and for good reason. Patience, perseverance, and a commitment to impact over profit will serve you well. Always measure success by the lives you touch and improve, not just the bottom line.
What strategic plans do you have in place to scale Corti’s growth, particularly in the US market, in 2024 and beyond?
We’re strategically positioning ourselves for continued growth in the US market, backed by three key hires: Chad Compton as Chief Revenue Officer, Frederik Braband, MD, as Chief Medical Strategy Officer, and Yvonne Kirsch as VP of Partnerships, North America. These leaders bring a wealth of experience from Microsoft and Philips Speech, driving healthcare sales and innovation at scale. Even before their arrival, we were on track to power over 100 million patient interactions annually by 2025. With this new leadership, I have no doubt we’ll continue to build the most trusted and impactful AI solutions in healthcare, and I couldn’t be more excited for the time ahead.
