AITech Interview with Ken Sutton, Co-Founder and CEO at Yobe

Voice technology is advancing rapidly, and one company is at the forefront. VIENNA by Yobe harnesses advanced voice data extraction and emotional analytics to transform industries.

Ken, as the Co-founder and CEO of Yobe, your work with VIENNA is transforming voice technology. Could you start by sharing how VIENNA is revolutionizing industries with its ability to extract precise voice data and provide emotional analytics?

VIENNA is a cutting-edge voice extraction solution designed to revolutionize how businesses capture and analyze voice data. It makes it easier than ever to extract clear, valuable insights from conversations, even in noisy environments. The extraction of emotional, acoustic, phonetic, biological, and linguistic cues refers to analyzing voice data (capturing mood, sound properties, pronunciation, unique vocal markers, and language patterns) helps businesses gain deeper insights into customer sentiment, improve operational efficiency, and deliver enhanced user experiences.

VIENNA offers advanced voice data extraction. How does this technology differentiate itself from traditional voice recognition systems in terms of accuracy and functionality?

VIENNA ensures unmatched accuracy in noisy environments by filtering out background noise, particularly irrelevant voice chatter. By leveraging Yobe’s unique blend of voice biometrics, and edge-based AI VIENNA ensures that only the most relevant speech is captured and analyzed.

Emotional analytics is a unique aspect of VIENNA. Could you elaborate on how analyzing emotions in voice data can benefit industries like healthcare and retail?

The more contextual data you gather from an interaction, the richer the analytics you can extract from the resulting text. Beyond simple transcription, VIENNA captures emotional cues such as frustration or satisfaction, enabling businesses to gain deeper insights into customer sentiment, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver superior user experiences.

In healthcare, voice technology could potentially change patient care. How is VIENNA being utilized to improve diagnostics and patient interactions in this sector?

VIENNA leverages advanced voice extraction technology to enhance healthcare diagnostics and patient interactions by capturing clean, high-quality voice data, even in noisy or chaotic environments such as hospitals or clinics. It analyzes emotional, acoustic, phonetic, and linguistic cues to provide insights into a patient’s emotional state, stress levels, and underlying health conditions.

By enabling hands-free, real-time documentation, VIENNA reduces administrative burdens on healthcare providers, allowing them to focus more on patient care. Additionally, its ability to transcribe and contextualize conversations helps streamline workflows, improve communication accuracy, and ensure critical details are not missed in patient records. This innovation empowers healthcare professionals with actionable insights, leading to more informed diagnostics and a better overall patient experience.

Retail is another sector where VIENNA can play a significant role. How can precise voice data and emotional insights enhance customer engagement and personalize the shopping experience?

Extracting precise voice data and emotional insights can transform customer engagement and personalization in retail. Its advanced voice extraction technology captures clean input even in noisy environments, enabling accurate communication and real-time sentiment analysis. By identifying emotions like frustration or satisfaction, VIENNA helps retailers tailor responses, resolve issues effectively, and deliver personalized recommendations.

With always-listening capabilities, VIENNA collects real-time data from in-store interactions, uncovering patterns like common questions or frustrations. This empowers retailers to optimize store layouts, improve inventory management, and train staff more effectively. Proactively engaging customers and addressing issues as they arise creates a seamless, data-driven shopping experience.

Transportation is a field with numerous applications for voice technology. What are some specific use cases where VIENNA has helped optimize operations and improve user experiences in this industry?

Yobe’s VISPR product (which is built on VIENNS technology) optimizes operations and enhances user experiences in transportation by transcribing live PA system announcements into real-time text messages, instantly delivered to passengers via mobile apps or displays. This ensures critical updates, such as gate changes and delays, are clearly communicated, even in noisy environments or to those with hearing impairments. VISPR has streamlined airport boarding processes, reduced passenger confusion, and improved operational efficiency by ensuring announcements retain their intended meaning, providing a seamless and reliable communication experience.

With the rise of voice technology, data privacy becomes a concern. How does Yobe ensure that user data remains secure while providing powerful voice analytics?

Yobe is deeply committed to data privacy and security, leveraging edge computing to ensure sensitive biometric data remains on the user’s device and under their control. By processing voice data locally, Yobe minimizes reliance on cloud infrastructure, reducing exposure to potential breaches. This approach not only protects user privacy but also enhances performance by enabling real-time analytics without latency. Yobe’s voice biometrics are designed to empower users with full control over their data, ensuring a secure and privacy-focused experience while delivering powerful and accurate voice analytics.

Innovation and growth are key outcomes of leveraging modern voice technology. Can you share examples of how businesses have unlocked new opportunities through the implementation of VIENNA?

Yobe’s VISDOC platform has enabled businesses to unlock new opportunities by providing hands-free, real-time documentation in high-noise, field-based environments. VISDOC captures and transcribes spoken interactions into structured, actionable text, eliminating the inefficiencies of manual data entry. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also creates a rich repository of data that can be analyzed for insights.

The captured text provides businesses with valuable analytics, uncovering trends, operational bottlenecks, and customer pain points. These insights drive innovation by identifying areas for improvement, streamlining workflows, and informing decision-making. For example, businesses in industrial sectors have used VISDOC to improve compliance reporting, enhance employee training, and optimize resource allocation, ultimately fostering growth and improving productivity. Through its seamless integration and data-driven approach, VISDOC empowers businesses to innovate and thrive.

What challenges do industries face when integrating advanced voice technologies like VIENNA, and how can they overcome these hurdles to maximize the benefits?

One of the biggest challenges industries face when deploying advanced voice technologies like VIENNA is managing acoustic complexity in real-world environments. Noisy settings such as industrial sites, airports, or hospitals often introduce cross-talk, ambient noise, and overlapping speakers, making it difficult for traditional voice technologies to capture clean and accurate data. These issues can hinder transcription accuracy and the overall effectiveness of the system.

VIENNA addresses these challenges with advanced voice extraction algorithms specifically designed to isolate the target speaker, even in environments with high noise and acoustic interference. By leveraging edge-based processing, VIENNA ensures real-time performance and accuracy while maintaining privacy and security. To maximize the benefits, industries can pair VIENNA with tailored workflows and training, ensuring seamless integration and a clear understanding of its capabilities. This approach allows clients to overcome acoustic challenges and fully unlock the potential of voice technology in their operations.

How do you envision the role of voice technology evolving in various industries, and what advancements can we expect from Yobe in the coming years?

Voice technology is poised to become a central element in how industries interact with systems and data as the reliance on touch-based devices diminishes. As multimodal solutions mature, voice will seamlessly integrate with gestures, visual cues, and contextual data, driving more intuitive and hands-free user experiences. Yobe is at the forefront of this evolution, leveraging advanced voice extraction technology to enable clean, accurate voice data capture even in noisy, real-world environments.

In the coming years, Yobe will continue to advance its edge-based solutions, ensuring real-time processing, enhanced privacy, and security by keeping sensitive data on the user’s device. We envision industries adopting voice as a primary interface for managing workflows, capturing data, and interacting with AI systems, reducing physical touchpoints while boosting efficiency and accessibility. Yobe’s innovations will focus on deeper contextual understanding, integrating emotional and intent-based insights, further enhancing the precision and value voice technology brings to sectors like healthcare, transportation, and industrial operations. Voice will be a major driver of this shift, transforming industries into more connected, intelligent, and human-centered ecosystems.
