AITech Interview with Yoni Farin, CTO & Co-Founder, Coralogix

Yoni Farin highlights the major challenges that they help companies solve along with a sneak peek into some exciting new developments in their space.

1. Tell us your role at Coralogix. How did you come to found the company?

During my career, prior to Coralogix, I was always drawn to internal debugging and troubleshooting. I would see first hand how much time and resources would be utilized for troubleshooting issues all while customers were being affected. From there I understood something had to be done differently to increase the speed of troubleshooting, reduce the impact of issues, and increase the developer’s ownership.

So I came together with Ariel and Lior and we founded Coralogix – we wanted to provide a different and better solution. Since then, I’ve been the running CTO of Coralogix

2. Tell us more about your platform. Why is observability critical to enterprise companies?

We offer a full-stack observability platform powered by unique Streama© technology. It enables real-time insights, ML models, data transformation, and alerting for all observability data with no reliance on storage or indexing.

Our solution solves the challenges associated with ever-growing data volume and system complexity. Our technology breaks the unit economics of observability to provide our customers with better insights, scale, stability and cost.

3. We can all agree that data volume keeps growing. What’s the major challenge you help companies solve?

The challenge with traditional solutions is that the cost of data analysis is tied directly to data volume. So when data grows exponentially, so do costs. That leaves most companies picking which data to analyze resulting in lost visibility. Our solution uses a unique technology, called Streama to analyze data upon ingestion without relying on indexing. Companies can send us all their data, which is then analyzed in-stream for real-time insights without the limitations and cost of relying on indexing. All of the data is written to the customer’s archive which they can remote query directly from our platform without adding any costs. With this model, organizations are able to monitor all their data for a fraction of the cost.

We are making data more accessible and transparent without breaking the bank.

4. You not only do observability, but you have a security practice and product. Can you tell us how you span both of those domains?

From the beginning, we saw security data as the fourth pillar of observability. Not only do you need to collect security events for observability, you also need observability to have security. As we say, every log is a security log.

Features for data enrichment, anomaly detection, and dynamic alerting have long been part of our next-generation SIEM offering. Now, we are investing significant R&D efforts to expand our offering to include Cloud and SaaS Posture Management (CSPM), vulnerability assessments, and more.

5. How does AI play a role in your technology?

We use machine learning in different parts of our streaming analytics engine to provide users with real-time insights and visibility into unknown unknowns. In addition to anomaly detection and dynamic alerting which can help to pinpoint issues and reduce alert fatigue, we use machine learning to aggregate millions of logs into templates where the user can view occurrence graphs and variable distribution to drill down into the root cause of issues.

6. Did the pandemic create any major shifts in your industry? Did it impact customers?

The Pandemic accelerated an already prevalent trend. That more and more of our communication is mediated through software. During the Pandemic, this became a necessity, and as such, our society became dependent on resilient and reliable software in a much more critical way. As customers shifted to meet this new challenge, our collective focus sharpened on observability. More traffic meant more data, more data created new problems with storage and query performance and those problems have become daunting for many of our customers.

It was during this period that we began to heavily leverage our Streama architecture, allowing our customers to ingest huge volumes of data, but maintain high performance queries and optimize their storage costs to, in some cases, reduce costs by up to 70%.

7. What are some exciting new developments in your space that you’re particularly keen on?

We’re not the only solution that aims to address the challenge of growing data volumes. In general, we’re seeing a collective effort in the industry to enable teams to leverage data as a common language.

At Coralogix, this is particularly exciting because we are big proponents of the open source community and are able to leverage many of these technologies to provide a better solution for our customers. Apache Kafka, for example, which we utilize as part of our streaming analytics engine.

8. What are Coralogix growth plans for 2023?

Our growth plans for 2023 is to continue growing our R&D and world-class Customer Support teams, expand into 10 new global markets, and continue developing our best-in-class full-stack observability platform.

We’re planning to expand into new industries such as eCommerce, Media & Entertainment, Logistics, Education, Insurance, and more.

9. Can you describe Coralogix’s company culture?

The company culture revolves around our motto: Hungry, Humble, and Smart

We believe it’s important for our employees to be hungry to always learn more, being humble about what they do, and smart in how they work. It’s important for us that our culture revolves around this. We also strongly believe in teamwork.

There’s no one person that does everything, and being able to work with a team is critical for the success of features and the company.
Having said that, we also believe in working hard and playing hard. We’re not one of those companies that goes insane, but it’s important for us to make sure our employees feel appreciated, can take time to relax, and can dive into their work and get the best out of them.
