Exo® CFO Lori Munoz Wins Stevie Award for Women in Business

Executive honored for leading Exo’s business growth and fostering its mission to bring medical imaging everywhere

Exo (pronounced “echo”), a pioneering medical imaging software and devices company, today announced its Chief Financial Officer, Lori Munoz, has been recognized with a Bronze Stevie Award in the Healthcare category of the 2022 Stevie Awards for Women in Business. Munoz is recognized for her significant contributions to Exo’s monumental business growth and for ultimately accelerating its mission to put medical imaging in the hands of every caregiver.

Since joining Exo in July 2020, Munoz has played a pivotal role in supporting Exo’s growth – spearheading key fundraising and M&A efforts. In August 2020, Munoz led Exo’s Series B extension round, securing $40M from lead investors Fiscus Ventures and Reimagined Ventures (Magnetar Capital affiliates) and Action Potential Venture Capital and marquis investors including Intel Capital, among others. Less than a year later, she led the company’s Series C round, securing $220M in capital in a round led by RA Capital Management and joined by BlackRock, Sands Capital, Avidity Partners and Pura Vida Investments. The $260M in financing from these two rounds empowered Exo to commercialize its point-of-care ultrasound workflow solution, Exo Works, in March 2022, and further develop its proprietary high-performance handheld ultrasound device and artificial intelligence (AI) platform.

In addition to Munoz leading Exo’s fundraising efforts, she has also played a pivotal role in Exo’s M&A strategy. In July 2022, she spearheaded Exo’s acquisition of Medo.ai, a Canadian developer of AI technology. Exo is now incorporating Medo’s proprietary AI technology into its ultrasound platform to make it simple for any caregiver to capture and interpret a medical image – fueling ultrasound adoption and ultimately powering better patient outcomes.

“Building a powerful medical imaging ecosystem takes a village, and Exo is incredibly fortunate to have Lori in our corner to help execute on our mission to bring medical imaging everywhere,” said Sandeep Akkaraju, CEO and Founder of Exo. “Lori’s tenacity, intelligence and dogged commitment to our company’s mission makes her such a valuable part of our team. She’s incredibly deserving of this award.”

The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards. The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, employees, and the companies they run– worldwide. More than 1,500 entries were submitted this year for consideration in more than 100 categories. Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award winners were determined by the average scores of more than 200 business professionals around the world, working on eight juries.

“I’m honored to be recognized alongside so many influential women,” said Munoz. “I’ve always had a passion for mission-driven work, which made joining the Exo team an easy decision. It’s been a privilege to work alongside amazing colleagues who are committed to improving clinician experiences and patient outcomes through next-generation technology.”
