Renowned Physician Executive Will Elevate Whole Person Health Care Model
Forge Health (“Forge” or the “Company”), a leading provider of value-based mental health and substance use care, today announced Guy Maytal, MD has joined the organization as Chief of Integrated Care and Head of Psycho-oncology.
In this role, Dr. Maytal will oversee the next generation of the Forge Health integrated care model, providing the highest quality mental health and substance use care to individuals with coexisting health conditions in close collaboration with their other medical providers. This will include rolling out programming designed specifically for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Dr. Maytal will also assist in developing and expanding Forge’s value-based partnerships with payors, health systems, specialty provider groups, accountable care organizations, government agencies, and employers.
“At Forge Health we believe that close collaboration between behavioral health professionals and physical medicine providers is critical to improving a patient’s overall well-being,” said Eric Frieman, co-founder and CEO of Forge Health. “Dr. Maytal’s unparalleled level of knowledge and extensive experience in the interface of the behavioral health and physical medicine fields makes him the perfect fit to lead our efforts to provide the type of comprehensive, integrated treatment that has been the missing link in care delivery for too long.”
Dr. Maytal is highly regarded for his expertise at the intersection of internal medicine and psychiatry, having most recently served as Chief of Integrated Care and Psychiatric Oncology at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Maytal previously spent more than a decade at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School, where he served as the Director of Primary Care Psychiatry, Director of Urgent Care Psychiatry Clinic, Medical Director of MGH Behavioral Health Integration Programs, and the overall Medical Director of Ambulatory Services. Dr. Maytal is also an esteemed expert in psychosomatic medicine, having authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, articles, and book chapters within the field, and currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.
“I’m thrilled to join Forge Health during this critical time of transformation in the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Maytal. “Historically, the healthcare system has overlooked the important connection between physical and mental health, leading to unmet behavioral health needs and poor medical outcomes for many people. I look forward to working alongside industry-leading payors and medical providers to set the new standard for delivering integrated care to patients who so sorely need and deserve the highest quality care.”
Forge Health has a well-established track record of partnering with primary care physicians, specialty medical groups, and health systems to provide integrated mental health and substance use care that transforms the patient journey and vastly improves patient outcomes and experience. These partnerships include streamlined referral management, information exchange, and care coordination, and in certain circumstances include physical co-location to improve diagnosis, collaborative treatment, and timely access to care. The addition of Dr. Maytal to the Forge team marks a significant step towards setting a new industry benchmark for whole-person care delivery.
