GE Appliances IoT Security Innovation Honored at Breakthrough Awards

CyberSecurity Breakthrough, a leading independent market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies and products in the global information security market, today announced that GE Appliances, a Haier company (GE Appliances), has been named the winner of the “IoT Device Security Solution of the Year” award in the fourth annual CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards program.

As a global leader, GE Appliances is equipped to help their customers improve security in a time when nearly all devices, including home appliances, are connected and vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. GE Appliances adheres to security best practices and develops connected home products that are secure by nature without user configuration, as security is ingrained into the GE Appliances culture and product development process.

“GE Appliances was the first manufacturer to offer a full suite of connected products for the home and we place security at the forefront of our business culture and connected products,” said Shawn Stover, vice president of smart home solutions for GE Appliances. “IoT devices from smart light bulbs to voice-activated assistants are pushing ever deeper into our homes and device security must be at the forefront of product development and go-to-market. We are proud to be able to secure your home from outside threats and deliver peace of mind.”

The mission of the CyberSecurity Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize the innovation, hard work and success in a range of information security categories, including Cloud Security, Threat Detection, Risk Management, Fraud Prevention, Mobile Security, Email Security and many more. This year’s program attracted more than 3,750 nominations from over 20 different countries throughout the world.

“GE Appliances continues to showcase connected home leadership, driving cybersecurity awareness as the first household appliance company to have a full suite of connected and secure appliances,” said James Johnson, managing director, CyberSecurity Breakthrough. “We’re honored to recognize GE Appliances for the Company’s long-standing commitment to consumer data protection, transparency and investment in security with our ‘IoT Device Security Solution of the Year’ award and we look forward to continued innovation from a pioneering connected home leader.”

GE Appliances ensures that their best practices are applied to its entire IOT ecosystem, including the cloud servers, mobile applications and over its 600 connected products, through regular third-party penetration testing. GE Appliances uses industry best practices to ensure privacy and protection of your data. Industry standards for access control, stored and transmitted data and mobile app security maintenance are also followed. Additionally, GE Appliances recently achieved the Gold verification level for UL’s IoT Security Rating. The Gold rating includes the assurance that the device is secured out of the box, and that data is stored and transmitted securely using industry standard security protocols and encryption.
