ŌURA Introduces Enhanced Activity Features and Expands Partner Ecosystem

Oura enhances and expands activity tracking with new features and algorithm improvements

ŌURA, maker of the world’s leading smart ring, is introducing a collection of activity-focused product updates and enhancements to its integrated app experience. Rooted in the Oura philosophy that “all movement counts,” the suite of algorithm improvements and product updates further advance Oura’s mission to be a comprehensive tool that helps people connect the dots of their overall health, from movement and sleep to cycle tracking and heart health. The company is also launching a number of new activity partnerships, including CorePower Yoga, The Sculpt Society, Technogym, and Open.

“Oura has always had a unique stance when it comes to movement,” said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura. “Historically, wearable devices have been little more than fitness trackers, but we believe that activity is just a part of overall health and wellbeing. We know that members highly value features related to movement. And our goal is to help them understand its impact —whether that be walking, playing tennis, or folding clothes—on overall health, including Stress & Resilience, Sleep, Metabolic Health, Heart Health, and more. Continuous, contextual data and insights are the key to giving people agency to live better, longer; we’re committed to continuing to enhance our capabilities over time.”

New updates to Oura’s capabilities in Activity

  • Active Time – trend view – With a new trend view for active minutes, members can understand their daily, weekly, and monthly active time and connect activity to their holistic health. Members can now add their max heart rate to the Activity setting and Oura will adjust heart rate zones and trends accordingly.
  • Heart rate from partners – Heart rate data will now be displayed in all activities imported from partner integrations from Apple HealthKit and Health Connect by Android. This additional heart rate data will help members better understand the holistic view of their movement and health.
  • Add/edit activities – Oura Members can now add or edit activities from the past seven days, not just the current day; Oura will automatically adjust past Readiness and Activity scores accordingly. Adding a workout has become the top feature, with two-thirds of members adding one or more workouts weekly, either manually or through Automatic Activity Detection.
  • All-day activity tracking – Addressing a previous limitation, Automatic Activity Detection now works all hours of the day and night—including between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.—so all movement counts. Oura Members value Automatic Activity Detection more than any other feature outside of those related to sleep.

New updates to Oura’s activity metrics

  • More accurate step counts – Rather than estimating step counts using generic movement, this new iteration of Oura’s step-counting algorithm enables Oura to act more like a pedometer, using an advanced machine-learning model to more accurately determine when ring movement is a step. Internal validation shows the new model slashes average daily step-count error by 61 percent. On average, members will see approximately 20 percent fewer steps. (Note that step counts can vary based on form factor and where a tracker is worn due to differences between finger and wrist movements during certain activities.)
  • More accurate active calories, with heart rate – Oura’s Active Calorie burn now takes intensity of movement (heart rate) into account during exercise. In November 2024, updates to Automatic Activity Tracking unlocked the ability to measure heart rate and heart rate zones after an activity was added. Internal testing shows that incorporating heart-rate data slashed median active calorie error by 53 percent.
  • New fitness metrics – Oura is bringing more movement data to Automatic Activity Detection, including running splits. Using your phone’s GPS data, the Oura App will now show your runs and walks in more detail.

New fitness metrics and new trend view for active minutes will be available on Android in June. Otherwise, all enhancements are available for iOS and Android users now.

Expanding the Partnership Ecosystem

Oura has steadily built a robust and diverse partnership ecosystem that amplifies and creates transformative experiences for members. To date, Oura’s partnership ecosystem is 800+ strong and growing, and includes well-known fitness/activity brands such as Strava, Equinox, and lululemon.

“As our movement capabilities and product-feature set continue to grow, working with influential partners helps us deliver customized experiences for Oura Members, no matter how they like to move,” said Dorothy Kilroy, chief commercial officer at Oura. “This group of activity-focused brands shares our belief that contextualized, personal data is critical to supporting people in making informed decisions about their wellbeing and unlocking deeper meaning from their daily activities.”

Oura is excited to announce new collaborations with:

  • CorePower Yoga-With CorePower Yoga, Oura Members can now see sleep, heart rate, stress and Readiness data populate within the CorePower app, helping them track how their yoga practice impacts their health and recovery. Post-class insights offer helpful context and motivation by connecting movement with measurable outcomes. This integration makes it easier for members to build an intentional, insight-driven practice, and includes 15 percent off a CorePower All Access Membership to make that consistency even more accessible.
  • The Sculpt Society– The Sculpt Society now integrates with Oura to bring each member’s Readiness Score into the TSS app, offering daily workout suggestions tailored to individual energy and recovery levels. This helps members better connect with their bodies and make confident, intuitive movement choices. The partnership also includes comprehensive programming designed to support women through every stage of life, from cycle syncing to pregnancy and postpartum. Oura Members can enjoy 50 percent off their first two months of the TSS app using the code “OURA” at checkout.
  • Technogym -Technogym’s global fitness ecosystem features an Oura integration that brings recovery data, like HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep patterns, into its Wellness Passport. That information powers the Technogym Coach, an AI-driven guide that delivers daily, personalized training recommendations based on each member’s needs and aspirations. By syncing seamlessly with Oura, Technogym offers a smarter, more adaptive movement experience, giving members the confidence that every session is aligned with their Readiness and recovery.
  • Open – Open now integrates with Oura to create personalized recovery rituals using biometric insights like Sleep Score. Designed by experts in fitness and neurobiology, the curated collection of breathwork, meditation, movement, and sound helps regulate the nervous system, enhance sleep quality, and improve day-to-day performance. This partnership includes a free 30-day trial of the Open app with the code “OURA.”

By expanding both feature capabilities and strategic partnerships, Oura is reinforcing its commitment to helping members understand the complete picture of their health, not just isolated metrics.
