PDW is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan DeFay as Vice President of Information Security. In this critical role, DeFay will lead the information security program and strategy for the company.
DeFay brings over 30 years of leadership experience in the cybersecurity and informational technology industries. As the founder and chief executive officer of SmartFirm IT, he provided expert services to organizations managing highly sensitive information. Following the acquisition of his company by NorthStar Technology Group in 2023, he served as Chief Security Officer, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in the field.
A veteran of the United States Navy, DeFay served as a Fire Controlman overseeing the NATO SeaSparrow surface-to-air missile system, including its computer, electronics, and radar components. His military experience will be pivotal as PDW continues to strengthen its partnerships with the armed forces.

DeFay holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from California State University, Sacramento. A recognized thought leader, he co-authored the book “Cyber Attack Prevention” and regularly contributes his expertise at cybersecurity conventions and seminars, staying at the forefront of innovation in the field.
With a unique combination of technical knowledge and business acumen, DeFay is poised to make an immediate impact, supporting PDW’s mission to deliver cutting-edge solutions to its customers.
