SambaNova Systems Named a Cool Vendor in AI Semiconductors

Recognition comes as more investors and organizations see real-world value from AI technology

SambaNova Systems, the company building the industry’s most advanced software, hardware and services to run AI applications, today was recognized as a Cool Vendor in the 2021 Gartner “Cool Vendors in AI Semiconductors” report, published June 18, 2021.

Gartner’s Cool Vendors research is “designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services.” The report also provides recommendations for organizations to take their strategies forward.

The recognition comes in the wake of SambaNova’s latest funding round, which launched the company to status as the best-funded artificial intelligence (AI) systems and services platform in the world. SambaNova’s flagship offering, Dataflow-as-a-Service, is the industry’s first subscription-based AI services platform that enables enterprises to jump-start AI initiatives by augmenting existing capabilities and staffing.

“We are honored to be recognized by Gartner for our mission to unleash AI’s vast potential and its accessibility to organizations in every industry,” said Rodrigo Liang, co-founder and CEO of SambaNova Systems. “As the AI market rapidly matures, we sit on the cusp of a technology revolution unlike anything since the internet. We look forward to our ongoing work empowering the world to solve challenges currently out of reach and pushing the bounds of what’s possible in computing.”

This year, venture capital investment in AI and machine learning is projected to top more than $111 billion, its highest point ever, according to Pitchbook. This reflects that more investors and enterprises recognize the value of AI, resulting in a flood of cash and new competitors entering the market with new services and innovative technology.

SambaNova was founded in 2017 by Liang, alongside Chris Ré, a Stanford professor and MacArthur Genius Award recipient; and Stanford Professor Kunle Olukotun, known as the “father of the multi-core processor.” The company has since raised more than $1 billion in venture capital investment, with its software-defined-hardware approach setting world records in AI performance, accuracy, scale, and ease of use.
