SNS Announces Apple-certified ProRes Transcoding for EVO Servers

Studio Network Solutions (SNS), the world leader in workflow storage servers for professional media teams, today announced that EVO video editing servers are now officially certified for Apple ProRes codec technology. EVO and its included suite of software tools now feature integrated ProRes transcoding for enhanced remote video editing workflows.

“Remote workflow continues to be a primary focus in the media production industry. With ProRes transcoding now integrated with the EVO suite of software tools, we’ve made remote video editing easier for post-production team members working from home and around the world,” said Ryan Stoutenborough, president at SNS.

As an Apple-certified product for native ProRes transcoding, EVO media servers can automatically transcode high-resolution source media into edit-ready ProRes proxy files. (No additional licensing fees are required.) These proxies can be downloaded for remote editorial with Nomad (EVO’s included remote editing utility) or directly through ShareBrowser (EVO’s included media asset manager) via the browser-based ShareBrowser Web App.

“Remote video editors need edit-ready proxies that balance high quality at a small file size,” said Eric Newbauer, vice president and chief technology officer at SNS. “ProRes transcoding allows EVO to automatically provide this balance to our users, while simultaneously giving them simple tools to use their edit-ready proxies in the optimal remote workflow for their video production team.”

ProRes transcoding functionality in EVO is compatible with all video editing software, including Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve. Video editors using Apple’s Final Cut Pro will have their ProRes edit-ready proxy files automatically linked when importing their media through the ShareBrowser extension in Final Cut Pro.

The award-winning ProRes video codec technology is currently certified for all SNS EVO shared storage solutions, including the EVO 16 Bay, 8 Bay, 8 Bay Live, DPX, Prodigy 1U, Prodigy Desktop, and Nearline form factors.

ProRes transcoding with EVO requires EVO OS v.6.1.5 or later and the latest versions of the EVO suite of software tools, including Slingshot v.1.4.
