Sunlight ranked a DCIG TOP 5 Rising Vendors HCI Software Solution

Sunlight.io, the thinnest, fastest HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) platform built for applications that run at the edge, today announced it has been ranked in the 2023-24 DCIG TOP 5 Rising Vendors HCI Software Solutions Report by analyst firm, DCIG.

HCI originally became popular in the data center back in the 2000s as a way of simplifying and managing the compute, storage and network infrastructure layers. The hypervisor is the foundation for hyperconvergence and enables virtualization of the infrastructure into the cloud. Sunlight founder and CTO, Julian Chesterfield was on the team that built the first Open Source hypervisor, Xen (now owned by Citrix), as a spin-out from Cambridge University back in 2003. Xen still powers the majority of the public cloud, including Amazon Web Services.

The DCIG report provides guidance for businesses looking to implement HCI solutions. As a part of the research, Sr. Storage Analyst, Todd Dorsey, identified fifteen software solutions for an HCI software use case. Of these, eleven are from Rising Vendors and five (including Sunlight) are ranked a ‘DCIG TOP 5 HCI Software Solution’. The software vendors were evaluated for deployment capabilities, data protection, product and performance management, and technical support.

Sunlight CEO, Tom Flink, said, “We’re delighted to have been recognised by DCIG for our HyperConverged Edge and NexCenter Management solution. The Sunlight team has a long-standing history in hyperconvergence and could see the need to build a brand new stack that is suitable for the far edge – where compute is required outside of the data center, close to the source, in highly distributed and often remote and harsh environments.”
