Bodo & Snowflake to enhance performance of Python Analytics

Bodo.ai, the extreme-performance parallel compute platform for data analytics, has announced a partnership with Snowflake, the Data Cloud company. The partnership combined with an investment from Snowflake Ventures offers advancements in simplicity, performance, scalability and the economic value of large-scale parallel computing Python data analytics and machine learning (ML).

The two will work together to optimize parallel computing approaches for Python analytics using Snowflake, significantly improving analytics performance, ease of use, and governance while reducing overall analytics costs.

Bodo recently demonstrated it can achieve order-of-magnitude speed improvements and cost reduction over Apache Spark and Dask alternatives.

This investment is part of Snowflake’s and Bodo’s commitment to help enterprise data engineers and data scientists simplify access to exceptional performance analytics and machine learning (ML) using the Snowflake Data Cloud.

Today, enterprise data engineers and data scientists approach improving compute performance and scalability for large data sets by rewriting their native Python code in alternatives such as Spark or Dask. These methods are costly, both in time, labor, and learning curves. With Bodo, Snowflake customers will be able to use Python, along with popular packages such as Pandas, SciKit Learn and NumPy, yet vastly reduce time-to-value, as well as reducing compute costs by an order of magnitude or more.

“We are thrilled to receive Snowflake’s endorsement of Bodo’s direction, to help democratize supercomputing-style parallel computing, and close the simplicity-vs-performance gap,” said Behzad Nasre, CEO of Bodo. “If you’re a data scientist or data engineer using Python, we can provide order-of-magnitude improvements in cost, not to mention speed. Plus we offer the simplicity of automatic scaling without any change of ordinary Python code. Broad access to such near-real-time analytics will enable new data-centric revenue opportunities, faster competitive responses, and radically more efficient data operations.”

“This investment is part of Snowflake’s commitment to the Python ecosystem, and to bringing Bodo’s parallel computing technology to the Snowpark developer community,” said Stefan Williams, Head of Corporate Development and Snowflake Ventures. “Data engineers and scientists can leverage the Snowflake platform to build even more scalable and optimized data pipelines and applications. We hope to accelerate their pace of innovation using Python’s familiar syntax and thriving ecosystem to explore and process data where it lives.”
